Ghana Becomes The First Country To Be Recipients Of The COVID-19 Vaccine – President Applauds
The President of Ghana and the Chairperson of the COVID-19 taskforce has revealed officially that Ghana is the first country in the world to be recipients of the vaccines with appreciation .
President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in the 24th Update of the Nation’s Address on the measures taken against the spread of coronavirus has appreciated the Covid 19 taskforce which he is the Chairperson and the officials of the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service for their tremendous work.
According to the President, the vaccine deployment plan was submitted to WHO, which unlocked this consignment, which was very well received. They have done a hero’s job and our country will be indebted and grateful to the contributors and managers of the COVAX Facility.
“The AstraZeneca vaccine is one out of the two vaccines that we have, so far, been approved and declared as safe-for-use by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
With the process of certification currently ongoing for the other vaccines , the range of the vaccines available to us. This will help our ability to reach our target of vaccinating twenty million Ghanaians by the end of this year,” His Excellence added.
Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo further disclosed that through the National Vaccine Deployment Plan, our population has been grouped into four and this will determine which section of the population gets vaccinated at a particular time .
“ The first group is named , “persons most at risk and frontline workers, frontline security workers , persons with underlying condition, persons sixty (60) years ago above , frontline members of Executive and legislature, the second group is made of the other essential service providers and the rest of security agencies, this group also comprises of the water and electricity supply services , teachers, students, supply and distribution of fuels so on and so forth,” He stated.
The President of Ghana, concluded by listing the other persons eligible for the first vaccine exercise , the third group, consists of the rest of the General public, that is all persons over eighteen (18) years, except for pregnant women and final group comprises of the pregnant mother’s and persons under eighteen(18) and they will be vaccinated when an appropriate vaccine is hopefully found or better still when enough safe data is present in the ones at hand, special arrangements will be made for persons with disability who fall within this groups .
