I hardly win awards because I’ve always turned down requests for sex – Yemi Alade
Singer Yemi Alade has revealed the challenges she faced in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, attributing her limited award wins to her refusal to comply with requests for sexual favours from industry executives.

Alade stated, “Today, men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria,” highlighting the prevalent issue of sexual exploitation in the industry. She elaborated on the pressure she faced, acknowledging past instances where she was propositioned for sex in exchange for career advancement opportunities, deals, and awards. Despite these obstacles, Alade expressed pride in her decision to maintain her dignity and integrity, stressing that she values her fans’ adoration above all else.

The ‘Johnny’ crooner emphasised the importance of staying true to oneself and standing firm against unethical practices, stating, “When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gain, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me.”
