Kwame Mickey Biography

 

Early life
Kwame Appiah Mickey known popularly as Kwame Mickey is a Ghanaian record producer who was born on August 15, 1972, at Kokofu Asamang in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He completed Apradan LA Middle school in 1987 and moved to Yeji.

While at Yeji, he traded second-hand clothes for about five years. Kwame made his way to the nation’s capital in 1992 where his music career began. Music has always been a part of the family; being the younger brother of the legendary Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, his strides are desirable.

After moving to Accra, Kwame Mickey began as a cassette trader for years. With an ear for good music and the first-hand experience of what music lovers wanted, Kwame ventured into full-time music production in 1996.

Discography

The connoisseur has worked with over 40 artists on about 75 albums. He has produced some of Ghana’s biggest hits including ‘krokro me’ by Amakye Dede, Osuani Afrifa’s ‘mensuro na meka’ among others.

Kwame Mickey also produced 12 albums with the late Bishop Michael Osei Bonsu, 12 albums with his elder brother, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah. He also worked with Cecilia Marfo on her first album as well as Paa Solo, Uncle Ato, Paa Bobo, Hallelujah Voices, Castro, Ex Doe, Terry Bonchaka, just to mention a few.

However, in 2012 Kwame Mickey took a break from music. He travelled to the USA where he sold and distributed CDs to African communities. According to him, he made the move for his children to have a better chance at education.

Aside from music production, Kwame is into estate development and other businesses.

Family
Married to Mrs Rita Mickey and blessed with five children; four boys and a girl. They are; Priscilla, Jeffrey, Caswell, Nhyira, Obrempong Appiah
