YouTube is what is feeding filmmakers now – Ruth Kadiri

The well-known Nollywood producer and actress Ruth Kadiri provides thorough explanations for why she posts her films to YouTube.

Ruth claims that she started posting her films to YouTube in an attempt to find a place where she could freely express herself and share her stories. She remembered how, despite being discouraged at first, she chose to give it a shot.

She made this known during a recent interview with BBC Pidgin.

I have been producing for a long time, and I find that working on a project involves too many rules and regulations. I informed my team over the phone that I was looking for a chance to express myself. I want to learn something online, for example, and then I want to upload it someplace after I have learned it.

While travelling for my delivery, I became bored and began to watch a lot of music videos. I also discovered that some people uploaded their films to YouTube. I promised myself I would give it another go later. I was told there was no money in it by some people, who discouraged me. I chose to give it a shot, though, as I felt that I needed a platform to share my experiences and express myself. “I instructed my team to proceed with filming, and in the event that the film is subpar, we will utilise it as a teaching tool,” the spokesperson stated.

Noting the wealth of opportunities on YouTube, the well-known actress also said that she is unconcerned about competition in the industry.

“As filmmakers, I believe we are at the forefront and work hard, so I personally do not worry about competition. Aside from filmmakers and content creators, people will go hungry if YouTube is eliminated from the market.

“More and more filmmakers are taking advantage of YouTube as a means of generating revenue. Considering that people are currently fed by YouTube,” she remarked.
