‘You have to be on my level if you want to clash with me’ – Old video of Stonebwoy pops up amidst challenge by Shatta Wale

In response to Shatta Wale’s demand for a “showdown” between himself and fellow musician Stonebwoy, Stonebwoy is seen in a video asserting that he is only capable of conflict with individuals on an equal footing.

In a Facebook post dated August 29, 2024, Shatta Wale challenged Stonebwoy to a fight at the Accra Sports Stadium to determine who is the best in the Ghanaian dancehall genre.

This call is in response to Stonebwoy’s requests to be featured in an article about Ghanaian hip-hop pioneers, which Shatta Wale has been making fun of all week.

He made the following request in a social media post: “To settle the ‘Dancehall King’ title dispute, I am formally challenging @stonebwoy and his fans to meet me at the Accra Sports Stadium. He should not identify as a dancehall artist if he and his fans turn down this invitation; in my opinion, he is a reggae artist.”

Although Stonebwoy has not yet replied to the challenge, internet users discovered a video of Stonebwoy’s June 2024 interview with Asaase Radio, located in Accra.

Stonebwoy was asked to choose any artist to compete against, whether they were domestic or foreign, during the interview.

But Stonebwoy retorted, “I am not going to clash anymore. It is not possible. To be blunt, with all due respect, if someone wants to argue with me, they need to be on the same level as me. I simply said, “You have to be on my level.” I am not saying that anyone is below me.”

Fans and supporters of both musicians are anxiously awaiting his response in response to this challenge to battle, which has generated a lot of interest and may pave the way for one of the most anticipated occasions in Ghanaian music history.
