Yaw Sarpong has been bedridden for over a year now – Manager
The manager of Yaw Sarpong has confirmed that his artist is battling a stroke. Sarpong is a gospel musician.
The “Oko yi” hitmaker has been unwell for more than a year, Nana Poku Ashis revealed in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb.
“He has been bedridden for over a year now. It started around this time last year. It was really bad when it happened a year ago, but we are hoping that he will regain his strength in the coming months,” he established.
Ashis discussed the situation of seasoned musicians and how the Ghanaian music royalty system has let them down, saying:
“It is serious when musicians come out to plead for medical care. Now is the time for policy to be implemented by the government. Now that royalties are a taboo topic, musicians are suffering to death.”
“A performer’s royalties serve as their pension. International musicians depend on royalties rather than begging for assistance. After so many years of labour, you pay these musicians 50 cedis here. It is awful,” he continued.
He went on to say that his artist is accepting of any kind of assistance.
“Help is needed by all. We would need prayers, and those who have and are willing to help can offer him a little. The few people he has impacted with his music should also help,” he added.
