Last year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Ghanaian gospel music sensation Frank Tagoe, also known as Perez Musik, had an unexpected turn of events when he was named the winner of the coveted Songwriter of the Year Award.
Renowned for his poignant lyrics and soulful melodies, the talented songwriter and artist have recently expressed genuine humility and surprise at receiving this unexpected honour.

In an exclusive interview with Berla Mundi on TV3’s Day Show, the hitmaker of “Hewale Lala” revealed that he was taken aback when he was named Songwriter of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) the previous year.
He claimed that he was up against Fameye, who had stopped Kofi Kinaata, and Kofi Kinaata, who had won the category for years. Nonetheless, he thought it was an excellent way to make a strong debut in Ghana’s music scene.

“Kofi Kinaata and Fameye are two individuals who have been winning; you can see this when you look at the category. I am aware that there remained some controversy even after my victory. In an interview that I listened to, Kofi Kinaata claimed he did not know me.
“Nevertheless, it is good. Since it takes a day to get to know someone, it would be very significant if you did so with me, “said the man.
