He vigorously disagreed, seeing it as an erroneous viewpoint that violates the sacredness of gospel music.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Lenny—who gained popularity with the song “You Are the Most High”—spoke on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning Show and stressed that, unlike gospel ministers who are chosen by God to share God’s message through music, secular musicians do not receive the divine inspiration and spiritual support needed to write songs that are truly filled with the spirit.

As a result, he declared that since he follows the Holy Spirit, he would never permit any musician to write his songs. He thinks that the messenger is just as important as the message, so gospel preachers should sing what is on their hearts because the lyrics speak louder than words.

“Those gospel singers were not up to par. I cannot get you to write a song; where is the Holy Spirit? It is, you see, a defilement. I receive songs from the Holy Ghost, and the Holy Ghost is our teacher,” he declared.

Concerns regarding the role and influence of secular musicians in gospel music are brought up by the well-known singer’s remarks at a time when many prominent secular musicians, including Kwabena Kwabena and Kuami Eugene, have composed songs especially for gospel performers.

Lenny also mentioned how much he detested hearing Christians perform secular music.According to him, since Jesus is the focal point of Christianity, any music that strays from Him is not truly Christian.

“If you sing secular music and you consider yourself a Christian, you have seriously strayed.” He claimed that God had set the standard and that light and darkness could not coexist.
