‘Our costume is for entertainment, not an expression of sexuality’ – Deaconess Abokomah and friends
Popular Ghanaian sketch creators on TikTok, “Deaconess Abokoma,” “Eno Fodjour,” and their pals are well-known for their hilarious depictions of the clichéd lifestyles of elderly Ghanaian women involved in gossip.

Their performances have led some to label them as homosexuals, and their content, which frequently shows them as overly feminine characters, has generated both controversy and laughter.
During a recent interview on GTV’s entertainment program “Spectacle,” which airs every Friday at 8 p.m., they discussed how they handle public perceptions and the creativity that goes into their skits.
They discussed their individual histories in the interview, exposing the origins of their creativity. Deaconess Abokomah, one of the primary characters,
outlined how his grandmother reared him and how he mostly interacted with her and her friends, having little to no contact with other adults.
His upbringing has enabled him to embody the essence of the ‘Fante Old Lady’ in his performances with exquisite precision. In response to a question concerning the stigma attached to their behavior, feminine characters, and skits, Eno Fodjour said he has received a lot of these accusations but that he ignores them in favor of focusing on his objectives.

Following their discovery of their niche, they decided to make content based on these experiences, using the costumes as an extra element to elevate their skits. They stressed that every character they adopt is just for fun, aside from the occasions when they dress differently to promote the companies they collaborate with.
