‘My son was killed for nothing’ – Wyllbee’s father

The father of the late Sowutuom-based artist Wyllbee has opened up about what led to his son’s untimely death in Kumasi.

The burgeoning musician passed away in the Ashanti Region’s Abuakwa-Tanoso while spending the night at the home of his purported lover, Nana Yaa Nyarko, who was residing with her husband’s family.

In the compound’s fence area, Wyllbee reportedly woke up on Friday, July 5, 2024, to urinate. Some residents saw him there and confronted him, suspecting him of being a thief.

In an attempt to preserve her marriage in front of her in-laws, Nana Yaa Nyarko is said to have denied knowing him when he attempted to clarify that he was there to spend time with her.

The situation worsened when Wyllbee was viciously beaten to death after the residents informed the neighbors that they had apprehended a thief.

After Nana Yaa Nyarko and a few other suspects made their initial court appearance, Wyllbee’s father spoke to the media and expressed his sadness over his son’s tag. He emphasized that Wyllbee was not a thief and that his death was not in vain.

“Learning that he has been labeled as a thief aches. My son would not likely want to steal anything from that house, in my opinion. I was unable to even view the images. Even though we are not wealthy, we would not steal to get by,” he remarked.

“My son’s death was senseless. His songs on social media are evidence of my son’s promising future, which was abruptly taken away,” he continued.

He described how, unaware that his son had been the victim, he had first learned of the tragic news.

“A young man who went to see his girlfriend was misidentified as a thief and assaulted, according to my wife. I was unaware at the time that it was my son. He explained, “My brother was the one who went to the scene and found out.”
