My break was accidental; I’ll sing till I die – Esther Smith
According to Esther Smith, her hiatus from music was unintentional.
“Something compelled me to take a break even though it was not my intention,” she remarked.
Speaking to Mr. Lion, she was on Class Drive on Class 91.3 FM.
The well-known singer-songwriter stated, “My child had a heart condition, so I had to leave this country for Germany because of the doctors and everything.”
“This moment in my life placed a huge demand for my time in Germany,” she said.
Esther Smith stated, “I continued to perform music while I was there. In a German choir I joined. I became a member of the Church of England choir after moving to England.”
“I sing wherever I am because I am aware that singing gospel music is my divine calling. It comes easily. I am not going to give up. She promised her fans, “I will keep going until God calls me to rest.”
The legendary performer of gospel music claims that traveling from Germany to Cote d’Ivoire for a performance was one of her most memorable career experiences.
“This was around the year 2008,” she said.
When she heard the title track from her 2009 album, M’aye Nhyira, playing at the airport, she was completely taken aback.
She said, “I felt like I was a president,” and said she was even more moved when her Akan/Twi songs were performed by the Francophone crowd.
She remembered getting similar positive responses in the USA.
According to Esther Smith, she received public recognition for her 2000 debut album “Gye No Di” and financial gain for her 2002 sophomore album Onyame Boafuo, which featured the song “Ma W’onsan.”
Onyame Boafuo quickly became popular. She clarified, saying, “We would cut fifty thousand copies, and it would be gone in less than two weeks. In addition, it set a record as a chart-topper. It was quite successful. God accomplished amazing feats.
The Ghanaian artist, who currently resides in the UK, has not been home for ten years. A concert in Kumasi was held to commemorate her return; on Friday, August 30, an Accra version will take place at the Perez Dome Chapel, Dzorwulu, under the direction of Bishop Agyin Asare.
