Music is for entertainment and making money; not beefs, guns – Nana Acheampong

The Champion Lover, also known as Nana Acheampong, has reminded musicians that the main goals of show business are entertainment and survival.

He was a guest speaker on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo midmorning show.

Nana Acheampong was reminded by host Nana Romeo of the time he counselled Shatta Wale to stay positive and concentrate on his music.

“Music is ultimately work,” as Nana Acheampong emphasised.

He lamented, “Someone seems to forget that we are at work in the midst of the excitement and dancing. Yes, it functions. You take care of the kids, buy real estate, and buy other properties for the future with this.”

He cautioned that performing music and doing business “are not joking things.”

The controversial 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) saw Stonebwoy brandish a gun when his rival Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed the stage as he was up there accepting his fifth Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year trophy. Stonebwoy appeared to broach the event.

Nana Acheampong reprimanded, “Showbiz is not about pulling and firing guns,” and expressed confusion over why “the young ones show no understanding and tolerance of each other but resort to guns.”

He expressed concern that it is possible that these unsettling incidents are all being staged for media attention.

The Highlife icon emphasised, among many other beneficial things, that “music is for healing and consolation.”
