Mark Okraku-Mantey Speaks Out Against Disrespect Toward Industry Veterans

Deputy Minister of Arts, Culture, and Tourism, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has voiced his displeasure at the trend of entertainment pundits and industry newcomers criticizing seasoned professionals under the guise of offering advice.

While speaking in an exclusive interview on Hitz FM on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Okraku-Mantey highlighted the disrespect often shown to veterans in Ghana’s creative industry, stating that individuals with limited experience are quick to pass judgment on those who have dedicated years to their craft.

“In Ghana and the creative industry, you would see somebody who has done just one job advising Okraku-Mantey with 8-year album achievement. It is the beginners who are advising the veterans,” he stated.

The Deputy Minister further emphasized that this behavior undermines the hard work and sacrifices made by veterans, urging such critics to rethink their approach.

“Why? It must change. I am a role model to your model, and if I am a role model to your role model, if you have not done any project in your arts, how would you appreciate my pain? But you are given the microphone to advise me,” he added.

Mark Okraku-Mantey, who has over a decade of experience in the creative sector, previously worked as a producer and artist manager. His comments call for greater recognition of the efforts and achievements of veterans, as their contributions continue to shape the creative arts industry in Ghana.
