Listen Up: Darkua releases new single “Say My Name”

“Say My Name,” the first single of the year from Ghanaian AfroSoul and R&B singer Darkua, has been released.

With the hit 2023 single “Echo,” Darkua takes the lead in Ghana’s R&B scene. With “Say My Name,” she solidifies her place as the genre’s poster girl in Ghana.

Say My Name is a tribute to R&B from the 2000s, with a Darkua touch. Thanks to Albert Keyz (keyboardist) and Gv Made It and High Jam for production. Say My Name is a spiteful wish for both the best and the worst, reflecting the sensation of being freed from an unfaithful lover. “It will get better; I promise. When spreading it, I pray that you will mention my name.

Darkua stated, “I am interested in R&B music,” about the album. With its R&B influence, “Amalelor,” my debut single, is more accurately classified as an Afro-R&B song. However, I was able to thoroughly explore the R&B genre with “Say My Name.” For me, listening to musicians like Jorja Smith has helped me see things in a different light. In Ghana, R&B is a genre that is expanding and has gotten the attention it deserves. Making my mark in the R&B scene and taking the lead in Ghana is something I am willing to do. In terms of production, I worked with two producers and a keyboardist to realise my vision while taking my time with the record. I am delighted to report that the finished product is flawless.”

It is impossible to ignore Darkua’s remarkable ability as a writer, whose meaningful, relatable emotions serve as the foundation for her lyricism, as well as her ability as a singer with a lovely voice and melodic inclinations with R&B influences. This is evident in her new record.
