Kwabena Kwabena Reveals Reasons for Opting Out of Award Schemes

Kwabena Kwabena, the stage name of renowned Ghanaian singer and songwriter George Kwabena Adu, stressed the need for a more orderly and peaceful method of acknowledging artistic achievements.

DJ Slim highlighted the significance of recognising one’s hard work during an interview on Daybreak Hitz. The crooner expressed his desire for a structured system that would make nominees for award schemes feel appreciated. The singer went on to express his dislike for award shows, citing conflicts, contradictions, and the encouragement of artist rivalry as justifications.

 

He acknowledged the importance of receiving recognition for one’s work and said, “I wish it could be structured so that even when you are nominated, you will feel good.”

 

The inclination of awards to become individualised, resulting in disputes and arguments between artists, was criticised by Kwabena Kwabena.

 

The “Adult Music” hitmaker made the observation that these kinds of things take away from the entertainment value and enjoyment of the ceremony.He then advocated for an award scheme that promotes unity and mutual respect among artists, suggesting that a collaborative approach would be more appealing to him.

Although he appreciates the entertainment value of award shows, where he can sing and celebrate music, Kwabena Kwabena expressed his preference for unity over competition.

 

On platforms established by the event organisers, he indicated his openness to taking part in any craft-related activities, even in spite of his misgivings about award schemes.

 

In honour of the late highlife artist Amakye Dede, who was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, Kwabena Kwabena recently gave a performance at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.Additionally, he has released a new song titled ‘Fakye Me’, which is part of a 5-track gospel EP that he plans to release later this year.
