Kofi Donkor Urges Boomplay to Settle Celestine’s Overdue Royalties Amid Rumors of Ghana Office Closure

Kofi Donkor, the manager and husband of renowned gospel musician Celestine Donkor, has raised concerns about the non-payment of his wife’s royalties by popular music streaming platform, Boomplay.

According to Mr. Donkor, Celestine has not received any royalties for over a year, prompting him to take action.

In a Facebook post sighted by Ameyaw Debrah Media, the manager urged Boomplay to address the outstanding payments before the Ghana office is reportedly closed.

“Boomplay, pay us our royalties before you shut down the Ghana office on Friday!” he wrote, expressing frustration over the delay.

Mr. Donkor further highlighted the severity of the situation in an interview with myjoyonline.com stating, “They haven’t made a payment in over a year. Additionally, I’ve heard that they intend to close their Ghanaian office. We must withdraw our funds immediately

This move was partly fueled by rumors that Boomplay might be shutting down its Ghana office soon, adding to the pressure for the company to clear its debts.

Although Boomplay does not have direct contracts with individual artists, but rather works with distribution platforms, the delayed payments to Celestine and other Ghanaian artists, such as Kofi Sarpong, Okyeame Kwame, Tinny, King Paluta, and Sista Afia, have raised eyebrows. The issue appears to be tied to challenges with these distributors, including the expiration of some licensing agreements and the difficulties in establishing new ones.

The situation highlights growing concerns within the Ghanaian music industry, as artistes continue to face difficulties in receiving payments for their work on digital platforms like Boomplay. Despite the complications, Donkor remains firm in his demand for the payment owed to Celestine, stressing the need for the situation to be resolved promptly.
