I’ve been rejected for roles because of my age – Fred Amugi

Legendary Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has revealed that, as a result of his age, he has been the target of discrimination and rejection for film roles.

Because of his advanced age, the 75-year-old actor revealed that producers have not been very receptive to him, despite his significant contributions to the Ghanaian film industry.

The legendary actor lamented getting passed over for roles because of his age in a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz. However, Fred remains undeterred and is actively involved in acting, with two new film projects in the pipeline.

“I was once rejected because people thought I was too old. But they did not realise that a family needs both young and old members to function properly. We see how people of all ages work together in every community, and we see how people coexist in television and movies. As a result, I am still performing, being involved in the community, and enjoying my life.

‘I’m still active in acting and have two new films coming out. I’ve just finished one called The Fisherman, which is a foreign style film made in Ghana. I’m still working on the second one, Yen Ara, extensively Yen Ara Asaase Ni. So expect great things!” he said.

Fred Amugi further emphasised the importance of humility and discipline in an actor’s career, highlighting the value of learning from life experiences to cultivate these qualities.

“When it comes to acting, I think the most important qualities are humility and discipline. These traits come from experiencing different aspects of life. We can learn from what happens around us and what brings good and bad things.

He continued, “We can learn to be humble and disciplined by observing how others have lived. Those who are, tend to have the best lives. Humility and discipline are key.”
