I was ordered by my church elder to pull down a music video because of the Church doctrines – Legendary Alex Acheamong

Legendary Gospel singer and songwriter, Alex Acheampong has uncovered some struggles he went through during his early days as a musician.  The ‘Emmanuel’ hit maker was interviewed on Legends TV program by host, Agyemang Prempeh on TV XYZ on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

The young baritone singer was ordered by his church elder to pull down a music video because of the earrings that the characters in there, which was against their religious teachings.  This situation could’ve been avoided if the producer and director of the video were SDA members.

“I had issues with my church members because of the instrumentals in my songs.  They said the it has lost it’s spiritual powers.  I was thinking of deleting the song but I later had a change of mind, which I think was a direction from the Lord.  Since the year 1996, the song has relevant till today.” the legendary singer revealed.

Alex Acheampong, a native of Bekwai in the Ashanti Region recounted how he was into shoe shine, kerosene, fose, sugarcane, trading and learnt a bit of mechanic work at various periods around age ten just to help sustain his family, although he was schooling by then.

The generational thinker, together with the Young Missionaries of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) Ghana, released this old and classic tune titled Emmanuel in the year 1996.

The legendary singer faced financial challenges in the beginning of his career, of which he had no option than to seek for help from a non-Adventist.  This got him into a conflicting situation when it comes to implementation of his beliefs as the thought of the financial recoup keeps crossing his mind as frequent as the SDA doctrines.

In 2002, at the UK Gospel Music Awards, Alex Acheampong and the Young Missionaries received the best male group award.

The singer who’s now married with two kids and has two houses in England confirmed that he can’t attribute my success to just music.  He moved to London in 2005 After his first Degree.  He did menial jobs for a while before getting settled.

The ‘Aka Sima’ hit maker organized the ‘Emmanuel Praise’ concert with Diana Hamilton where he invited some of his colleagues to join them for the beautiful program.  He is still recording and releasing now songs and has received nominations from Ghanaian Music Awards UK and Ghana National Gospel Music Awards.
