I pursued higher education to honour my late father’s wish – Amerado
Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, better known by his stage name Amerado, is an award-winning rapper from Ghana. He has said that he decided to pursue a degree because his late father had always wanted to see him graduate.
The ‘Kweku Ananse’ crooner revealed in an exclusive interview with Mzbel on Movement TV that he was returning to school to fulfil his father’s wish that he succeed and obtain a postsecondary qualification, in addition to seeking enlightenment via education.
”My father of blessed memory always wanted me to go to school to the highest levels, so I’m fulfilling his wish too,” he said.

The rap sensation claimed that his desire to establish a connection with a larger audience was a major factor in his academic endeavours. He is currently a second-year student studying philosophy and political science at the University of Ghana (Legon). He feels that students make up a significant portion of his fan base and that he can develop stronger relationships with them and win their support by participating in their academic community.
“I am in level 200 at Legon, where I study political science and philosophy. I went there because I needed a tertiary audience. Apart from that, I am someone who wants to be enlightened,” he added.
The well-known crooner acknowledged the difficulties of balancing education and show business and thanked his family for supporting him through the difficulties, which eventually allowed him to bring both facets of his life into balance.
