I have no interest in composing political songs for any party – Nana Acheampong

The seasoned musician Nana Acheampong of Ghana has made it clear that he will never write a campaign song for a political party.

He made this comment in support of the NPP while appearing on “Atuu” with Abeiku Santana. The question was whether he would consider following in the footsteps of his former partner in the Lumba Brothers, Daddy Lumba, who is well-known for the hit song “Nana Y3 Winner.”

In response, Nana Acheampong stated, “I am my own person, and he [Lumba] is his own person. To be honest, I haven’t, and I do not want to go that way.”

He clarified that his choice was motivated by a desire to maintain his neutrality and prevent any possible blowback from rival political party members that might result from publicly endorsing one over the other through his music.

I have no desire to take an interest in that side of politics or get involved in it. I am capable of doing it, but I would prefer to stay out of a scenario in which I perform a song for one party and the opposition party’s supporters start to take offence. I made this decision for that reason,” he said.

The remarks made by Nana Acheampong coincide with the nation preparing for the December 2024 general elections.
