I Couldn’t Attend University Right After SHS Because of My Mum’s Financial Difficulties – Amerado
The celebrated Ghanaian rapper Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, better known by his stage name Amerado, has talked candidly about the difficulties he had when attempting to continue his education beyond senior high school (SHS).

During an interview with Emelia Brobbey on Adom TV’s Okukuseku talk show, the ‘Kweku Ananse’ singer revealed with heart that he was unable to continue his education at the time due to his mother’s financial instability.
Amerado’s mother took care of him and his siblings after his father died when he was only 13 years old.
He revealed that he was accepted into both the Akrokerri College of Education and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) following his graduation from high school. Though he was passionate about education, he was forced to pass up both opportunities due to his mother’s financial struggles.
Amerado turned to music because he was determined to succeed, and as his career took off, he was able to accumulate enough savings. He made the decision to go back to school with his team’s encouragement and support.

Amerado started his studies at the University of Ghana two years ago, and he is still there.
The financial difficulties of my mother forced me to renounce my admissions to KNUST and Akrokerri College of Education. With the success of his music career, he was able to achieve financial stability and now attends the University of Ghana for his studies.
