‘Don’t compare me to Daddy Lumba; it’s very disrespectful’ – Shatta Wale warns netizens

Dancehall artist Shatta Wale is upset with internet users for drawing comparisons between him and Highlife icon Daddy Lumba.

Despite their distinct genres and periods of popularity, some online debates have recently compared Shatta Wale and Daddy Lumba.

The two musicians are engaged in an intense argument about whose music is better as a result of this comparison.

Daddy Lumba was a highlife music pioneer who had a huge impact on Ghanaian music from the early 1990s to the 2000s with his unique vocals, hits, and classic songs.

In contrast, Shatta Wale, who first went by the name “Bandana” before changing it, has emerged as a major player in Ghanaian music of the present day since the early 2000s.

Shatta Wale was compared to legends like Daddy Lumba as online conversations about his notoriety grew.

But according to Shatta Wale, this comparison is demeaning and lessens the legacy of Daddy Lumba, who paved the way for artists such as him in the contemporary era.

“It is highly disrespectful to compare me to the legendary Daddy Lumba,” wrote Shatta Wale, venting his resentment toward X. The man in question cleared the path for your favorites and me, so everyone should stop that,” he wrote on X.

He said that the comparisons were an attempt to damage his reputation and sow discord with the highlife legends.

“This is what my rivals do to simply damage my reputation in public… To make the elders despise me and think I lack respect, they want to draw comparisons between me and Lumba,” he said.

Shatta Wale went on, “Why do not you make comparisons between me and your decorated Sarkodie and Stonebwoy? You took this course in order to incite more people to hate me because you know it would be a shame for them, right? It will take time to tell. Humanity will acquire knowledge. God is keeping an eye on everyone.
