COMPOSING HIGHLIFE MUSIC IS MORE DIFFICULT THAN OTHER GENRES – DADDY BOAT

Versatile Ghanaian artiste and songwriter Daddy Boat has divulged the reason why artistes do not produce or release highlife songs anymore.

Speaking with Afia Owusu, the host of XZONE ON TV XYZ, Daddy Boat revealed why highlife music is not as active as it used to be.

She quizzed Daddy Boat about why Highlife does not receive the deserved attention and what the solution could be. Daddy Boat confirmed that he is a highlife artiste, however, he makes gospel music.

Daddy Boat added that the genre is losing its relevance because highlife artists rarely release Highlife songs.

“When I used to sell cassettes, highlife legends such as Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Daasebre, and Nana Acheampong released music from June to December. But now, it can take a year or more without the release of a highlife song.

This could also be a factor. Moreover, with the highlife, any little mistake you make whilst singing or performing, the whole thing flops, and you need to start over,” he said.

He added that in other genres such as hiplife, you can go off beat whilst rapping or performing, but people will still be celebrating with you, but when it comes to highlife, that can’t happen.

Daddy Boat is out with a new song dubbed Kitiwa Biaa Nsua featuring KK FOSU and Landabel.
