Bobrisky appeals six-month sentence
A notice of appeal has been filed by Nigerian transvestite Idris Okuneye, better known by his stage name Bobrisky, contesting the recent ruling of a Federal High Court located in Lagos State.
This comes after Bobrisky was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with misusing the naira, the currency of Nigeria, and was given a maximum sentence of six months by Justice A.O. Awogboro.
Bobrisky entered a guilty plea, but his attorney petitioned the Court of Appeal to overturn the sentence, arguing that his client should instead receive a N50,000 fine for each count, citing the fact that his client had not previously been convicted of a crime and had cooperated with the authorities throughout the legal process.
