Afua Asantewaa says she didn’t hold on to Sing-a-thon result

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a well-known figure in Ghanaian media, is the longest-running applicant for the Guinness World Record for singing marathons. She has commented on the announcement of the results of her attempt.

Recall that on Friday, February 23, 2024, the Guinness World Records (GWR) official X account tweeted to confirm that her official attempt was not successful. Her disqualification was attributed by GWR to a failure to meet the rest break timings.

GWR also said that they had reimbursed her the $750 that she had paid for expedited service in exchange for an assessment of her attempt. Netizens harshly criticised Afua Asantewaa on social media after the GWR declared her disqualification, accusing her of hiding the results that were being withheld from her earlier in the month.

However, speaking in an interview with GHONE TV, Afua disclosed that she did not intentionally hold on to the results from GWR; rather, she could not access her account.

“I would have shared it with Ghanaians regardless of the outcome, be it successful or not; I have a very strong personality, and I believe in not giving up. There is no way I will hold on to a result such as this.”

She said, “I talked about a misunderstanding with GWR; it involved my login account; I do not have access.”

To a greater extent, the public figure disclosed that there are no published documents attesting to her disqualification because she cannot access her account.

“As I sit here, I can not access my account; I do not have an official document to even post on my social media that this is my disqualification letter,” the woman continued.
