After years of support, veteran Ghanaian gospel artist Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, also known as Great Ampong, has expressed his disappointment with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) lack of acknowledgement and backing.

He discussed his sacrifices in an interview with Ashh FM, based in Kumasi. Among them was being the first gospel artist to write a song endorsing the NPP at a time when artists were hesitant to do so for fear of a negative reaction from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Christ commands us to love one another, but we hardly ever see that. Daddy Lumba was the first artist to compose a song endorsing the NPP, and I was the second and first gospel artist to do so. At one point, artists were afraid to endorse the NPP for fear of what the NDC would do to them,” he said.
The fact that party leaders had offered Great Ampong little to no recognition or credit for his services to the organization grieved him.
I am unable to currently think of anything that has been done for me in exchange. I am not allowed to demand payment from the powerful. However, he continued, “None of them have acknowledged the sacrifices many people, particularly the creatives, have made for them, nor have they remembered any of the sacrifices I have made.”

Great Ampong observed that the organizers frequently do not follow up or offer assistance after his or her performance at an event.
“They would invite us to perform at an event, but nobody would get in touch with us or offer to pay us afterward. Hardly ever do they return your calls or messages. It would not even be done by the NDC,” he declared.
Even so, Great Ampong made it clear that he will continue to support the NPP going forward and that he remains a devoted member of the party.
