Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman widely know as Joey B has dropped his second studio project after releasing a couple of singles over the years. The body of work dubbed ‘ Lava feels’ comes after the self-titled debut album, ‘Darryl’ which was released in 2017.
Joey B, a versatile rap icon with a blend of of good artistry and a stronger fanbase which cuts across the various facet of the youth population due to his unique and playful lyrics which accompanies his fancy fashion style takes us on a musically inspired hip hop /rap journey with Lava feels.
The introductory song, which shares the same title as the album, sets the tone for what to expect on the album with an electro hip hop groove and mellow rap delivery. The rapper took us on a exploratory trip about his art and how dynamic his thoughts and sound has revolutionalized the music scene.
Again, the rapper recruited Ghanaian multiple award winning hip hop artsite, Sarkodie on the second track of the album christened ‘La Bamba’ which preached the impact both artistes have made on the music scene in Ghana via introducing several young acts on to the scene with a self-gratification lyrics on a call to action trap beat.
The album borrows inspiration from several Ghanaian highlife heavyweights such as Daddy Lumba and Ofori Amponsah. The rapper has always openly opined on the influence Ofori Amponsah exudes over his craft.
Overall, the album which comprises of a fusion of hip hop, zouk, synth Pop and Afrofusion comes no where close to his debut album ‘Darryl’ although it hubs a collective of interesting hip hop groove which will easily pass for good listening session on a daily basis. Moreover, it share affinity with the sexual and wealth inspired lyrics which we often hear in most hip hop albums.
